Early forms involved throwing tin lids or makeshift flying discs at designated targets, such as trees or trash cans. Modern disc golf was formalized in 1974, thanks largely to "Steady" Ed Headrick, who also designed the first standardized disc golf basket, the "Disc Pole Hole," in 1975. Headrick also founded the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA), which established official rules and promoted the sport globally. Played on courses with varying terrains and challenging layouts, disc golf has grown in popularity due to its affordability, accessibility, and appeal to players of all ages and skill levels. Today, it boasts a thriving community, professional tournaments, and an expanding presence worldwide.
